How to Prevent Contacts from being Added Automatically to Your Gmail Contacts on a PC

In Gmail, When you use the Reply, Reply to all and Forward functions to send emails to certain addresses, the addresses will be added to your contacts automatically by default if they are not already in your contacts list. Adding a person to your circle in Google+ will also do the same thing to your Gmail. If you do not want contacts to be added automatically, follow the steps below to to cancel it.

Access Gmail

Click the Gear Icon

  • Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner to open the menu.

Click “Settings” Button

  • Click “Settings” button in the menu to access settings page.

Check the Check box to Change Setting

  • In the “General” tab, find the “I’ll add contacts myself” setting and check the check box to select it. [1]
